TOZANDO KATANA SHOP

Katana - Mumei(No Signature) - Uchigatana/Shirasaya - Suriage Nakago - Koto Era

This unsigned sword was made in the Koto period and is in good condition considering its age. There are no flaws or dents, and the surface is not clouded. Originally about 74 cm long, it is assumed that it was shortened in later years. Chikei is visible on the hada of the itame. The hamon is notare mixed with midare. With kakinagashi grooves engraved, this sword ideal for iai. The tsuka handle is wrapped with beige-colored silk cord, and the tsukasame is colored gold for a fashionable finish. The tsuba, menuki, and fuchikashira are original, and the menuki and fuchikashira feature rice crops and Daikokuten, the god of wealth, symbolizing a rich harvest. The tsuba, made of iron, originally had three paulownia crests painted on it, but they have been worn away over time and are no longer easily distinguishable. The three paulownia crests are also applied to the brownish black Ishime-nuri scabbard. Considering its overall condition, it is being offered at a very reasonable price. This is a highly recommended piece that can be used not only to enjoy the aesthetics of a koto-era sword, but also as a sword for iai and batto.
