Yoshimasa (Keiichiro Tomioka)
On his very first entry to the 2020 Modern Sword Artisan Exhibition, Yoshimasa won both the Excellence Award and the Newcomer's Award. He trained for four years under the Mukansa swordsmith Kunimasa Matsuba of Miyazaki Prefecture. In his own words, he strives “to make swords with a strong life force, so that this power of life wells up from the blades I create.”

A commissioned sword is yours to shape, detail by detail. Here is what you can specify when you order.
The Blade
Length & curvature — set the blade length (nagasa) and the depth of the curve (sori) to suit your build and purpose. Proportions — width and thickness at the base and tip (motohaba, sakihaba, motokasane, sakikasane) shape the sword's balance and presence.
Hamon (temper line) — choose a style of your own, or leave it to the swordsmith's artistry. Hi (grooves) — select from several groove styles, or none at all.
The Finish
Polishing grade — Standard (for iai and tameshigiri), Deluxe (for iai and appreciation), or Premium (for pure appreciation). Custom signature (mei) — have a personalized inscription added if you wish.
The Mounts (Koshirae)
Complete your sword with fittings chosen to your taste — habaki, tsuba, tsuka-ito, sageo and more — or keep it in a plain shirasaya for pure appreciation and preservation.

Commission more than a single blade. Pair a katana and wakizashi as a traditional daishō, add a tanto for a complete set, or entrust each piece to a different master — a truly extraordinary collection, forged just for you.

Commission FAQ
How do I place a commission?
Two ways. You can configure and order your sword online and pay in full at checkout, or request a quote and reserve with a deposit — ideal if you'd like to discuss the details, spread payment, or commission a set.
How long does it take?
Because each blade is hand-forged to order, production typically takes about a year. Both the price and timeline depend on the swordsmith and specifications, and we keep you updated along the way.
Can I pay a deposit and settle the balance later?
Yes. Through the quote route, a deposit of around 10% reserves your commission and begins production; the balance is paid on completion — in full or, on request, in installments during the forging period.
What can I customize?
The blade length and curvature, its proportions, the hamon, grooves, polishing grade, an optional custom signature, and the full koshirae (fittings) — or you can leave any choice to the swordsmith.
Can I commission a matched set or use different smiths?
Yes. You can commission a daishō (katana and wakizashi), add a tanto for a full set, or entrust each piece to a different master. For sets, please request a quote so we can coordinate everything for you.
Do you ship worldwide?
Yes. We obtain the required export permit from Japan and ship worldwide, insured and tracked, with decades of experience in international sword delivery. Some countries restrict importing swords, so we recommend checking your local regulations first.
