TOZANDO KATANA SHOP

Katana - Terukane - Uchigatana Koshirae - Ubu Nakago - Shinto Era - Hokkaido 39470

Here is a Japanese sword that is suitable for batto use.

The sword is in a fair state of preservation, but there are multiple marks on both sides of the blade, just in the center of the blade, as if rust had been wiped off, which is an element that slightly detracts from the aesthetics of the sword. Chipping can be seen at the point of the blade about 24 cm from the kissaki.

There is a possibility that it was actually used. However, it might be a good idea to use this katana as a practical tool for that purpose. Hada is itame and yubashiri, etc. can be seen. Hamon is gunome mixed with midare and has ashi. The names Sakakura Gonnoshin Terukane are engraved on the nakago.

Terukane was one of the leading swordsmiths of the Shinto period, and since he was originally the second generation Echigonokami Kanesada, many of his works have the name Echigonokami Kanesada engraved on them. Later, however, he changed his name to Terukane after passing the name on to the third generation Kanesada. Another swordsmith active at the same time was Tsuda Sukehiro, both of whom specialized in gorgeous hamon.

All of Koshirae's fittings are from that period, and the tsuba is engraved with the names Echizen Ju Kinai Saku. The Kinai school made many magnificent tsuba, but the engraving of the name on this tsuba is characteristic of the master Iri Kinai.
