Katana/Wakizashi Daisho Set - Kaneyoshi - NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Certificate - Uchigatana/Shirasaya Koshirae - Ubu Nakago - Shinshinto Era - Osaka 74791/74792
This is a very magnificent and dynamic daisho set made by Kaneyoshi during the Shinshinto period. Kanayoshi was a swordsmith active in Mino Province (present-day Gifu Prefecture) from the Muromachi period (1333-1573). The first Kanayoshi was later ordained and changed his name to Zenjo, becoming the founder of the Zenjo school. The name of Kanayoshi as a swordsmith was later passed down to the modern era.
This katana and wakizashi were made as a daisho set. The width and thickness of the sword's blade and its tremendous impact are the main characteristics of this set. The large kisaki in particular is extremely prominent, and when displayed as a daisho set, it expresses an overwhelming presence. Both katana and wakizashi are in very good condition, but both have small spots of rust on the mines of the kissaki.
Considering their state of preservation, the Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords has recognized both the katana and wakizashi as pieces worthy of special preservation and has issued a Tokubetsu Hozon certificate of authenticity. The koshirae are unified in Handachi style, and all metal fittings are original.
The scabbard is a dark red nashiji-style with some traces of mother-of-pearl inlay, giving it a luxurious appearance. However, there are cracks and dents on the katana scabbard. Also, the katana's tsuka cord is torn off around the menuki due to age. For an additional ¥20,000, we can rewrap both the katana and wakizashi handles.
If you are looking for a set of katana with great impact, this is the piece we can recommend most highly.
