O-tanto(Shobu-zukuri) - Mumei(No Signature) - Tanto Koshirae - Ubu Nakago - Shinto Era - Kanagawa 82284

¥420,000

This dagger is a very attractive tanto with a rare shobu-zukuri sword blade equipped with a powerful and dynamic koshirae.

The sword is in good condition with no rust or chips, although there is a thin scuff from being pulled out of the scabbard, but there are some fukure-like marks on the sashiomote side at about 8 and 11 cm from the kissaki. This does not detract from the aesthetics of the sword. Above all, the shape of this sword barrel is very beautiful with shobu-zukuri reminiscent of iris leaves.

The jigane is well packed with itame hada and shows chikei and yubashiri. The hamon on the sashiomote side is a thin suguha, and sunagashi can be seen in the ha. Hamon on the sashiura side is notare with gunome mixed in, and hotsure can be seen.

Koshirae is wrapped with vermilion threads and lacquered over them. The menuki is in the dashimenuki style, with the menuki exposed. All fittings are of brass except for the iron tsuba, which is of the period and is also equipped with a kaerizuno and a larger kojiri. The scabbard is a dark red tsuishu style, elegant yet powerful. It is equipped with a kogai but no kozuka.

This larger tanto is a fine match for the shobu-zukuri sword blade and the spectacular koshirae, and is a worthy addition to your Japanese sword collection.
