Tanto - Kane'ie - NBTHK Hozon Certificate - Aikuchi Koshirae - Ubu Nakago - Shinto Era - Shizuoka 63825

¥450,000 ¥600,000

A sophisticated and luxurious dagger made during the Shinto period, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, has arrived.

The blade is in excellent condition with no flaws, rust, or chips. The surface has some minor marks from being drawn in and out of the sheath, but overall it is well-polished. One of its notable features is its thickness of 7.6 millimeters, making it very substantial.

The blade features a well-packed itame hamon with a nitedeki notare pattern, and fine ko-gunome patterns are interspersed throughout. The nakago is engraved with the name “Kane'ie.” Kane'ie was a renowned swordsmith from the Muromachi period, born in Mino Province (present-day Gifu Prefecture), who was invited by the Takeda clan to move to Kai Province (present-day Yamanashi Prefecture). His name was passed down through generations and continued to be used until the Shinshinto period.

This work is a short sword made during the Shinto period at the beginning of the Edo period. The koshirae (sword fittings) include a dark brown ishime-nuri lacquered scabbard with a cloud pattern in the aikuchi-style and dashizame (where the entire shark skin is exposed). It also has a kozuka and a kogai, which is a wari-kogai that can also be used as chopsticks. The Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords has certified this short sword as a work worthy of preservation for future generations, issuing a certification in June 2024.

With all its exterior components intact, excellent preservation of the blade, and an accompanying certification, this short sword is of very high value and should definitely be added to your Japanese sword collection.
