This piece is an unsigned Japanese sword, certified by the Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords as a katana made by Kanenori.
Kanenori was the grandson of Shizusaburo Kaneuji, a master swordsman who later founded the Sanami school. He is known as Echizen Kanenori because he moved to the Echizen area between the end of the Muromachi period and the beginning of the Edo period, and is a very popular artisan who created many excellent masterpieces.
The condition of the sword is excellent considering its age. It is estimated that this sword blade was originally longer as a tachi but has been suriage several times to reach its current length. Hada is itame mixed with mokume and has very active hataraki such as chikei and yubashiri. Hamon is niedeki notare mixed with choji, and yos and kinsen can be seen. The katana is engraved with grooves on both sides of the blade.
Judging from the state of preservation and value of this katana, the Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords has issued a certificate of hozon. If you would like to equip this katana with uchigatana koshirae, we gladly do so for an additional fee (from 200,000 JPY).
