TOZANDO KATANA SHOP

Katana - Kiyomitsu - NBTHK Hozon Certificate - Shirasaya Koshirae - Ubu Nakago - Koto Era - Kyoto 16100

A very nice katana from the Koto period has just arrived at Tozando. Considering the age of this sword, it is very well preserved. There are no dents, chips, or other defects on the blade, just a few very fine dots of malleability.

The sword has the characteristics of swords made in the Koto period, with Itame being the main feature, mixed with Mokume hamon, giving it a picturesque beauty. Hataraki such as chikei and sunagashi can also be seen. The reserved suguha hamon with ashi and yo also doubles the beauty of this sword blade, making it a very dominant piece.

The front side of the Nakago is engraved with "Bushu Osafune Kiyomitsu" and the back side with "Eiroku Sanen Hachigatsubi. Osafune Kiyomitsu was a master swordsmith who, along with Katsumitsu, represented the Nagafune school of the Sue-Bizen period in the late Muromachi period. Along with Tadamitsu, he is also considered a master of the Suguha hamon. This katana was created in August 1560, the same year that Nobunaga Oda won the Battle of Okehazama. The Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords has authenticated the hozon for its state of preservation and its value as a legacy for future generations, and has issued a certificate of authenticity for the piece.

We hope you will add this katana piece from the Warring States period to your collection and feel the spirit of the samurai. This is a piece Tozando proudly recommends.
