A superb Tanto has arrived featuring a powerful Hitatsura Hamon that extends not only along the hamon side but also across the mune side.

The blade is fully polished and in flawless, well-preserved condition. The jigane displays active yubashiri with mokume mixed into the itame pattern. The Hamon is a magnificent Hitatsura covering the entire blade, achieving a finish almost reaching the realm of art. The nakago bears the inscription “Kanetsune.”

Kanetsune is a renowned Mino Province (present-day Gifu Prefecture) swordsmith lineage dating back to the Koto period. Over a dozen swordsmiths bore the Kanetsune name from the early Edo period through the Bakumatsu era. Initially forging swords in Seki, the lineage relocated to Kouzuchi (present-day Kamiuchi-cho, Mino City, Gifu Prefecture) by the 11th generation.

While the exact generation of Kanetsune responsible for this work remains unclear, its characteristics suggest it dates from the Kanbun era.

The koshirae is a well-preserved black-lacquered Aikuchi style, exuding a sense of calm.
