Wakizashi - Kanetane - Uchigatana Koshirae - Ubu Nakago - Shinto Era

Kanetane was a disciple of Echizen Kempo, a master swordsmith of the same period as Kotetsu. Originally from Seki in the Mino region, he is said to have come to Echizen Ichijodani at the invitation of the Asakura clan, a powerful family in Echizen Province. His swords are renowned for their sharpness and are famous as a waza-mono. It is also said that, in the Kaga Maeda family, it was mandatory for clan members standing at the castle gate on New Year's Day to wear a kanetane wakizashi (sword). In addition, Kanryu Hitoshi Takeda, a Shinsengumi member, carried a kanetane as his favorite sword.

This wakizashi has a hirazukuri shape, a wide and very thick blade, and is very powerful and heavy. The hamon is toran with gunome mixed on fine masame hada. On the sashi-omote are engraved what looks like a vajra and hieroglyphics. The sashi-ura is engraved with hi and soehi. It is equipped with a magnificent uchigatana koshirae. The scabbard is lacquered in black to bring out the true grain of the wood (in the image, the registration certificate is wrapped around the scabbard, but when it is actually delivered to you, this certificate is not present). A black silk cord is wrapped around the handle, but unfortunately the beginning of the cord is missing due to age. It can be rewrapped for an additional 10,000 yen if desired, so please let us know after ordering if you would like this option. This is a famous sword Kanetane, but the price is reduced in consideration of the condition of the exterior. Do not miss this opportunity.
