This is a Hirazukuri wakizashi, unsigned yet certified as a Kanefusa masterpiece.
Its condition is flawless, with the blade fully polished throughout—hardly believable for an antique. The jigane displays a fine grain pattern blending itame and mokume, with well-defined nie and visible yubashiri. The hamon is a sharp, vivid gunome pattern with vividly active patterns like kochoji and ashi.
Although the nakago bears no signature, in August 2022, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords authenticated this work as a Kanefusa piece and issued a Hozon certificate. Kanefusa is said to have originated with Masanao during the Daiei period of the Muromachi era. Works from the Kanefusa school possess a unique style, revealing elements of Yamato-den, Bizen-den, and Mino-den, creating a mysterious charm that makes them highly popular. This wakizashi also embodies that charm.
Despite coming with a certificate of authentication, it is priced very affordably, making now the perfect opportunity to acquire a wakizashi of exceptional quality.
