Authentic Koto Era Tanto for Sale - Mumei(No Signature) | Tozando
¥150,000 ¥230,000
A Koto-period tanto accompanied by a Hozon certificate of authenticity is now available at a great price.
The blade has been fully polished and is in excellent condition with virtually no flaws. The jigane features a finely textured itame grain with visible chikei. The hamon consists of irregular, relatively large gunome patterns, and the niioikuchi is well-defined. The name “Kanemitsu” is barely discernible, carved into the nakago.
When one speaks of Kanemitsu, the Osafune school of Bizen Province (present-day Okayama Prefecture) is renowned throughout the land; however, there was also a group that migrated to Mino Province (present-day Seki City, Gifu Prefecture) during the Nanbokucho period, and Kanemitsu was a master craftsman who laid the foundation for the Seki school of swordsmithing. The school he founded was mass-produced during the Sengoku period and spread throughout the country as “Sue-Sekiguchi” blades.
In August 2020, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords certified this tanto as a Mino Kanemitsu and issued a preservation certificate.
This is a tanto in excellent condition, highly recommended for a wide range of collectors, from beginners to veterans of Japanese sword collecting. Act before it sells out.
