This piece is a very well-preserved gem of a katana made by Kanetane.
Kanetane was a disciple of Echizen Kenpo, a master craftsman of the same period as Kotetsu. Originally from Seki in the Mino region, he is said to have come to Echizen Ichijodani at the invitation of the Asakura clan, a powerful family in Echizen Province. His swords are renowned for their sharpness and he is famous as a waza-mono. According to an anecdote, in the Kaga Maeda family, it was mandatory for clan members standing at the castle gate on New Year's Day to wear a kanetane wakizashi. In addition, Kanetane was the favorite sword of Kanryusai Takeda, a member of the Shinsengumi, who also wore a Kanetane as his sword belt.
The sword is extremely well preserved and very beautiful with no flaws, dents, or chips. The hada is a mixture of itame and mokume, with very active hataraki such as chikei and yubashiri, which are very impressive. The hamon is a thin suguha with a notare-like appearance, and the nie is very tight. Aranie and kinsen are also well visible and are very attractive. Boshi are straight and in the shape of omaru.
Here is your chance to own a Kanetane piece that has a reputation for cutting well. Don't miss this opportunity.
