A very nice Japanese sword from the Shinto period has just arrived. The sword is very clean and has no flaws at all, including flaws. Hataraki such as yubashiri and chikei can be seen on the itame hada, and the slender suguha hamon is niedeki, and within the hamon you can enjoy hataraki such as aranie, kinsen, ashi, and sunagashi.
Sukenao is called Yokoyama Gengoro Sukenao and is the younger brother of Yokoyama Sukenohira, a member of the prestigious Yokoyama clan of Bizen Shinto swordsmiths. He was a master craftsman active from the Bunka to the Koka period, and died at the age of 80 in the first year of Kaei. This work was made in February of the 8th year of Bunka (1811), when he was 43 years old and full of energy and strength. The Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords has certified this work as Tokubetsu Hozon and issued a certificate of authenticity for it as being worthy enough to be specially preserved for future generations.
