This piece is a short dagger made during the Shinto period.
The blade is well polished and in excellent condition with almost no flaws, and both sides are grooved with bohi. There is some slight black rust on the mine, but it does not significantly detract from the appearance.
The jigane has a beautiful itame ha with well-defined jinie. The hamon is characterized by irregular gunomes and is overall aranie. The nakago is engraved with the character “Kane,” and the characters following it have been cut off by Suriage. The Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords has certified this work as having been made by Kanefusa based on its characteristics, and in September 1971, it issued a Tokubetsu Kicho certificate of appraisal, recognizing it as a particularly valuable short sword.
Kanefusa was one of the leading swordsmiths of Seki in Mino Province (present-day Gifu Prefecture). The birth year of the first Kanefusa is unknown, but he was the fourth son of Kanehige, his father and the founder of the Zenjo school. The name Kanefusa is still used today.
This tanto with a certificate of authenticity is available at an affordable price, but it's first come, first served. So buy it now.
