This piece is a reasonably priced dagger with a certificate of authenticity.
The sword is in excellent condition with no flaws, rust, or chips and is kenzen ( healthy). The jigane is itame hada with yubashiri. The hamon is a thin suguha, with a slight tendency to be notare in some places. Kunikane's name is engraved on the nakago.
Kunikane, whose real name was Hongo Genzo, was a renowned swordsmith recognized by the Sendai clan. Since then, the name has been passed down through the Edo period over difficult issues. In November 1972, the Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords recognized this work as a valuable sword as a late Kunikane work and issued a certificate of authenticity.
