This piece is a dagger made in the Shinto period with Soken and Gomahashi engravings on both sides of the blade.
The sword is in very good condition with no flaws or chips, but there is a thin trace of rust on the hiraji on the sashiomote side, about 12 cm from the kissaki. The jigane is well wrought on the itame hada and yubashiri can be seen. Hamon is notare-like suguha mixed with gunome. Soken is engraved on the sashiomote side.
Soken is a simplified design of Sankozukaken, often used as a simple yet profound engraving. On the sashiura side, a gomahashi is engraved. Gomahashi has two grooves in it and is one of the Dharma tools of esoteric Buddhism. The gomahashi is also said to be a symbol of Fudo Myoo, as offerings are placed in a flame called a hudo goma to pray for his blessings.
The koshirae is quaintly tanto style, with tsukaito made of pure silk wrapped in the tsumamimaki manner. Reddish-brown tsuishu-nuri is applied to the scabbard, giving it an elegant appearance. The tsuba, fuchikashira, kurigata, koikuchi, and kojiri are all made of buffalo horn. Unfortunately, the kozuka was lost during the ages.
Only TOZANDO is able to offer this gem, which was probably carried as a protective tanto, at a special price.
