A rare swordsmith's work that is almost flawless after polishing has just arrived.
The sword is extremely well preserved, with no flaws, rust, dents, or chips, and is in excellent condition, so it can be immediately enjoyed for appreciation. The jigane is a very well packed itame hada with a soft surface. Hamon is a spacious, wide gunome, with a well-defined Nioi.
The name of the swordsmith, Yoritoki, is engraved on the nakago. From the characteristics of the blade, we assume that this sword was made in the mid to late Edo period. However, details about this swordsmith are completely unknown, and he is a mystery with no information known about his country of origin or school of swordsmanship.
Because of the high quality of its blade, sword-making techniques, and good state of preservation, the Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords authorized Hozon to certify it as a work worthy of preservation for generations to come and issued a certificate of authenticity for it in June 2024.
The koshirae is a tanto koshirae in the jidai style, also equipped with a kozuka. The tsuka-gashira is made of an amber-like material, but has some damaged parts.
This is an excellent piece made by a mysterious swordsmith, and the Yoritoki tanto it retains is probably the few that are available on the market, so it is very rare.
