This blade has been acquired. Discover other exceptional swords currently available in our collection.
This piece is a very rare and unique custom-built sword with an extremely narrow blade.
The blade has been sharpened and is in very good condition with no flaws or rust. The jigane is a well-polished itame and has a hataraki like chikei, making it a very impressive sword despite its slender body. The hamon is a very elegant niedeki suguha.
In Nakago, we can confirm that one character “Hidari” is carved on the Sashiura side. The engraving of a single character Hidari means that this is a famous sword of the Samonji sect, which was active from the late Kamakura period to the Nanbokucho period, but the registration certificate states that the inscription is "unknown. This is probably because this koshirae was first registered by the Yamagata Board of Education in 1964, but the person in charge at that time most likely overlooked this character.
The koshirae is wrapped in beautifully polished sharkskin throughout the tsuka and has an elegant black kanshitsu-lacquered Saya.
There is no doubt that this koshirae is a special piece, and if you are looking for a rare Japanese sword, this is surely a gem to put on your wish list.
