A well-preserved Shinto period wakizashi with a kizami style scabbard has arrived.
The surface of the sword is slightly cloudy due to friction from pulling the sword into and out of the scabbard, but overall the sword is well polished. There are no flaws, chips, or rust, and both sides are engraved with Hi grooves. The jigane is well packed with itame, and chikei is also visible. The hamon is a well-packed gunome with a strong nie, and has a strong presence.
There is no signature on the piece, but judging from its appearance and the condition of the nakago, it is assumed that this piece was made in Seki, Mino Province, around the early to mid-Edo period.
The uchigatana koshirae is very sound and shows little wear from age. The kizami-style scabbard is also equipped with a kozuka, making it a total package as a wakizashi.
This is a wonderful piece of wakizashi, very graceful, yet with a samurai feel to it.
