Katana made during Koto era (901-1595AD)
The Koto period refers to curved Japanese swords made from the mid-Heian period after 901 to the end of the Azuchi-Momoyama period (1596). Before the advent of the Koto, straight swords were the norm. The reason for the curved blade on Japanese swords is closely related to the rise of the samurai.
