This piece is a katana made during the Shinto period, which is recognized by the Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords as a work of Fujiwara Takada.

The condition of preservation is relatively good, with no flaws, chips, rust, or other defects. The hada has itame mixed with mokume, and the chikei is well visible. Hamon is gunome with well-tightened nie, with well-defined ashi.

The Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords has recognized this katana as a hozon and issued a certificate for it, as the state of preservation of the blade makes it worthy of being considered a work of Fujiwara Takada and to be preserved for posterity. Fujiwara Takada refers to a group of swordsmiths and their works that were made in Bungo Takada (present-day Oita Prefecture) during the Shinto period after the Azuchi-Momoyama period. Swords made in this area during the Koto period are known as Taira Takada, and were a brand of high-quality katana from that time.
