An unsigned Katana with a Hozon Certificate of Authenticity from the Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords has just arrived.

The overall condition of the sword is generally good, with no flaws, rust, dents or chips, although the sword is generally in a state of old polish. The jigane is a beautiful itame hada with mokume mixed in some places, which is worth appreciating. The hamon is an elegant and prestigious nioideki gunome midare.

Although this piece is unsigned, the Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords recognized this sword as the work of Hirotaka and issued a certificate in May 2023.

Hirotaka was a swordsmith active in the Shinto period, representing the Echizen-Shimosaka school, and was a student of Kanetane. His work was known for its sharpness and fame, and he is said to have been a very popular swordsmith in the Shimosaka school. Due to his popularity, he and his works are nicknamed Bonryu or Bontaka, a phonetic reading of the kanji for Hirotaka.

Take advantage of the popularity of Hirotaka's work in Japan and make it yours now!
