This piece is a sword made in shinto with excellent preservation.
The entire blade has been polished and is very sound with zero defects such as flaws, rust, or chips. The jigane is koitame hada, also known as konuka hada, which has well attached jinie. And chikei is found everywhere. Hamon is a suguha with well attached nie. Kinsen and sunagashi are also found in the Ha. The nakago has the inscription “Omi Daijo Fujiwara Tadahiro” engraved on the ura side.
Tadahiro was a swordsmith active in Hizen Province in the early Edo period. Tadahiro was the legitimate son of Tadayoshi I, the founder of the Hizen region-specific sword called Hizento, and became the head of the family at a young age, since his father passed away when Tadahiro was 19 years old. He received his “Omi Daijo” title in 1641 and is said to have continued to make swords until his death in 1693. In his more than 60 years of sword making, he continued to produce great works of art.
Koshirae has a gorgeous style with a vermilion lacquered scabbard and a white silk (yellowish discoloration) tsukaito applied, giving it a very impressive presence when displayed. Because of its affordable price, it can be used as a batto or for iai, and can also be enjoyed by admiring the jigane and hamon.
