Wakizashi - Nobuyoshi - NBTHK Hozon Certificate - Shirasaya - Ubu Nakago - Shinto Era - Yamaguchi 6913

¥450,000

This piece is a signed wakizashi in excellent condition bearing Kikumon(a chrysanthemum crest).

The blade is fully polished throughout with zero flaws—no nicks, rust, chips, or dents. The jigane features a grain pattern of itame mixed with some mokume, with yubashiri and chikei also visible. The hamon is a narrow Suguha with a tight nioi-kuchi, featuring ashi within the ha. The nakago bears a carved chrysanthemum crest, beneath which is inscribed “Echizen no Kami Minamoto no Nobuyoshi Saku.”

Echizen no Kami Minamoto no Nobuyoshi, whose real name was Takai Kanesaburo, was born in Yamashiro (present-day Kyoto Prefecture) and forged swords in Aburanokoji in Kyoto. He later relocated to Settsu, where he contributed significantly to the development of the Mishina school during the Shinto period.

His work was highly regarded as approaching the excellence of Inoue Shinkai's pieces, earning him permission to engrave the chrysanthemum crest as a renowned swordsmith associated with the Imperial family.

The habaki features an exquisite, painting-like engraving reminiscent of an emaki scroll, creating a work of great refinement that captivates the viewer. Due to its outstanding quality, in August 2005, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords authenticated this piece as a genuine Nobuyoshi work and later issued a certificate of appraisal recognizing its high preservation value.

We invite you to add this superb wakizashi bearing the Kikumon to your collection.
