This piece is a large kissaki katana from the Koto period. Originally, the blade length was about 80 cm, but repeated suriage resulted in the current length.
The sword is in relatively good condition, with no fatal flaws or rust, although some forging marks can be seen in places. There is a very small chip on the blade about 2 cm from the hamachi. There are some fukure marks on the hamon on the Sashiura side, about 4 cm and 8 cm from the Hamachi.
The hada shows chikei with some mokume mixed in with the itame. Hamon is notare-like suguha mixed with ko-gunome and ko-choji, and overall niedeki. Within the ha, aranye and other species can be seen. The kissaki is larger than usual, 5 cm long, and very powerful. It is not very thick and relatively lightweight, making it a suitable weight and balance for iai use. If you prefer, we can equip it with an uchigatana koshirae for an additional fee. If you wish to have an uchigatana koshirae, please contact us after you have purchased this sword.
