Shigemitsu Suetsugu is a descendant of Ishidou Moritsugu, a representative smith of the Kuroda clan and a member of the Fukuoka Ishidou school of swordsmiths, and was active during and after World War II.

He showed his talent for sword making from his youth, and at the 1941 New Japanese Sword Exhibition, he was awarded the highest rank of "Special Honorary Master Swordsmith," and in the 1942 ranking, his work was rated as the best of the best. He established a swordsmith workshop at Sumiyoshi Shrine, and from 1935 to 1942, he worked at the Nihonto Tanrensho of the Kyushu Imperial University, as did the first Yoshiwara Kuniie. He is still talked about as a master of Bizen-den, a style that is second to none.

This sword is very well preserved and has a sharp cutting edge. There are no flaws and the sword is equipped with the preparation of a modern part, so it can be used immediately and practically for test cutting and iai.
