The blade is very well preserved and free of any flaws, chips or rust. The jigane is a well packed ko-itame hada and the hamon is a nioideki gunome. In ha you will also find hataraki such as ashi and kinsen.
The name Bish Ju Masauji is engraved on the nakago. Masauji was a swordsmith active in Aichi Prefecture during the Showa period, and many of his gundo works remain. There was an army-appointed swordsmith named Masayasu in the same area, so it is thought that they are from the same family. This katana is truly frugal and solid and was made to cut something.
The sword itself is a military sword, but the koshirae is equipped with a traditional uchigatana. It was probably reordered after World War II. The tsuba is decorated with the family crests of Kikyo and Omodaku, giving it a luxurious appearance. The tsuka is wrapped with cotton tetsukon colored cord in the hinerimaki style. The scabbard is Kizami style, carved and lacquered black.
In any case, this is a great piece that can be recommended to anyone who wants a sturdy test-cutting sword or a katana for batto.
