This piece is a beautiful koto period bizen wakizashi equipped with a handachi style koshirae.
The preservation of the sword is very good considering the age, with no rust, forging defects, or chips, but there are some thin marks from friction with the scabbard. jigane is itame hada with very active chikei. Hamon is Suguha mixed with Kogunome and Kochoji, and various patterns can be seen depending on the angle at which the sword blade is held up to the light. The unique utsuri of Bizen-den can also be seen. The blade is engraved on both sides with kakinagashi Bohi grooves.
On the nakago, the smith's name, Hidekage is written in gold inlay. Hidekage is the grandson of Osafune Chikakage of the Kamakura period, a swordsmith active from the Oei to the Bunmei period of the Muromachi period and representative of the style known as Oei Bizen. Many of the Bizen works made during the Oei period are elegant, and the swordsmith's technique is excellent.
The koshirae is in the handachi style, and all metal fittings are presumed to be of the period. The kincha-colored tsukaito is wrapped in the tsumami-maki style and has discoloration due to age, which gives it a unique antique feel. The scabbard lacquer is a bright vermilion glossy lacquer, vivid yet elegant.
Here is your chance to own a Bizen piece from the Koto period. Definitely do not miss this opportunity.
