A good quality wakizashi that has been sharpened with excellent preservation has arrived at Tozando.
The sword is very well sharpened with no forging defects, rust, or chips of any kind. The well-packed itame hada shows active chikei. The hamon has a relaxed notare that is elegant yet strong. The name “Hida no Kami Ujifusa Eis engraved on the nakago.
Hida no Kami Ujifusa was born in Eiroku 10 as the son of Ujifusa Wakasa, and began swordsmithing with his father Ujifusa in 1567. His father, Ujifusa Wakasamori, was the exclusive sword smith for Oda Nobunaga, considered the most influential warlord in Japanese history, so Ujifusa served Nobunaga's third son, Nobutaka, as a minor retainer. However, Ujifusa became a ronin when Nobutaka committed suicide after being ordered to commit seppuku (ritual suicide) during the “Battle of Shizugatake Ein 1583. He then moved to Kiyosu Castle and began forging swords with his father, and since then he has created many masterpieces.
Koshirae is equipped with a robust uchigatana. All fittings are of the period except for the menuki, a black silk tsukaito wrapped in the style of tsumamimaki. The elegant ishime-nuri scabbard is equipped with a kozuka.
This is a very reasonably priced wakizashi equipped with the very popular Ujifusa inscription. This deal is an absolute steal.
