Katana - Sadanobu - AJSA Certificate - Shirasaya Koshirae - Ubu Nakago - Gendai Era
This piece is a Nie-deki Soshu-den, a specialty of the Gassan family for generations, with a presence of notare hamon that evokes gentle waves on a well-formed itame hada. It is 64 cm in size, more of a long wakizashi than a short katana, and very dynamic. Small grains of nie sparkle on the rim of the ha, creating a dynamic yet very elegant atmosphere. The sashi-omote is decoratively carved by Sadanobu himself. This katana comes with an official certificate from the All Japan Swordsmith Association.
Gassan Sadanobu's Profile
He is the son of Gassan Sadakazu, a leading figure in the Japanese sword world and the sixth generation of Osaka Gassan, who decided to enter the world of swordsmithing as soon as he entered university. He has demonstrated his talent to the fullest since he was a young man, winning the Rookie of the Year Award at the New Sword Exhibition sponsored by the Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords. Just as Gassan is known for Ayasugi Hada, he also specializes in the distinctive hada of his ancestors. On the other hand, he has also honed Soshuden techniques, which his grandfather Sadakazu and his father, Sadatoshi, excelled at, winning special prizes and other awards in various competitions. Recently, he has been actively collaborating with anime and participating in sword appreciation events, and as the current executive director of the All Japan Swordsmith Association, he has been making efforts to educate the public about Japanese swords.
