The Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords recognizes this fine unsigned katana as the work of Yamato Daijo Masanori. It is in extremely good condition with no rust, dents, or chips.
There are almost no flaws, but there are traces of forging in places. The hada is well packed with itame and shows jinie and chikei. Hamon is very impressive with a mixture of gnome, choji, and midare based on notare with nie.
Habaki is from the period, but all uchigatana koshirae are made of modern materials.
Yamato Daijo Masanori was a swordsmith active from the end of the Muromachi period to the beginning of the Edo period, and was a master swordsmith representing the Keicho period. His ancestor was the famous Yamashiro Sanjo Yoshinori, and his birthplace was Miyazu in the country of Tango. He later moved to Echizen when Tokugawa Ieyasu's second son, Hideyasu, became the lord of the Echizen Fukui domain, and produced a number of masterpieces at the same time as the first generation Echizen Yasutsugu.
