This piece is a katana inscribed with the name of Fukumoto Kanemune. Fukumoto Kanemune, whose real name was Fukumoto Koichi, was a swordsmith of the Kanesada clan of Seki and a commissioned smith of the Japanese Imperial Army during the Pacific War. He was recognized as a "yokiwaza mono" swordsmith in the ranking of modern swordsmiths by Hikosaburo Kuriyama in 1942. This sword is estimated to have been made as a military sword and is very practical.
The sword is very well preserved with no flaws, dents, or spills. The hada is well packed with itame, and the nie is well tightened in the low gnome hamon. The ha has some ashi in places, and the boshi is omaru. The tsuba is fitted with an old-fashioned sukashi-type, and the fuchi kashira and menuki are of the period. The tsuka cord is slightly discolored in some areas due to evidence of use in iaido. If you wish to have it rewrapped with a new cord, we will do so free of charge, so please mention it in the comments section of your order. The scabbard fits snugly over the blade, but there are some areas where the lacquer has peeled off around the Koiguchi. The sword is heavy enough for its length and is ideal for batto or iai.
