This sword, equipped with a tachi koshirae, is a piece made during the late Tokugawa shogunate period. Unlike typical Bakumatsu-era swords, this sword is not wide and not very thick, making it reminiscent of swords commonly seen in the late Kamakura period. The overall condition of the sword is good, but there is one small spot of rust on the hiraji, 11 cm from the habaki on the sashiomote. The sword is lightweight with an engraved groove on the blade. The well-packed itame hada features a hamon with some notare and midare mixed in with the smaller gunome, as well as tama and other dynamic activity.
Koshirae are equipped with old-style tachi koshirae and all metal fittings are original. In all the fittings, the crest of the Tokugawa family is featured, so it is likely that the koshirae belonged to a feudal lord associated with the Tokugawa family. The condition of the Tachi fittings is very good, so these fittings alone are of high value. The tsuka features a suede leather tsumamimaki. The lacquer on the scabbard is partially peeling off due to age.
The end of the Edo period was a time when the Tokugawa family was facing difficulties, and tachi related to the Tokugawa family made in that period are now very valuable.
