A short dagger from the Shinshinto period has arrived, equipped with both Shirasaya and Aikuchi Koshirae, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
The blade is in extremely good condition, with no scratches, rust, or chips. The jigane is well-packed itame hada, and the hamon is elegantly applied with well-defined nioikuchi and notare. In addition, grooves are engraved on both sides of the blade.
The nakago is engraved with the name Masahide. While Masahide may bring to mind Suishinshi Masahide, the certificate of authenticity issued by the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords lists the smith as Tada, indicating it is the work of a different individual. However, based on its characteristics, this piece can be identified as having been crafted during the late Edo period.
The koshirae features a shirasaya scabbard, along with a unified aïkuchi style with kizami, and the mekugi is of the rivet type. The menuki features contrasting designs of an okame and a demon, symbolizing good fortune. The scabbard is equipped with a kozuka.
We highly recommend acquiring this masterpiece for your collection.
