A very well preserved, clean and small tanto has arrived.

The hada is a well-packed koitame with very visible chikei. The hamon is a notare style suguha with gunome mixed in, and the nie is very bright. This dagger is thick for its length and is more of a yoroidoshi-like dagger. The name Hosokawa Tadamasa is engraved on the nakago.

Hosokawa Tadamasa is the grandson of Hosokawa Masayoshi, a master swordsmith of the late Edo period, whose father, also named Tadayoshi, was a swordsmith in the service of the Sakura clan.
