Tachi - Yasuhiro - NBTHK Juyo Certificate - Shirasaya - Suriage Nakago - Koto Era - Okayama 78912
A tachi sword from the Osafune school, forged during the Kamakura period and certified as Juyo by the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords, has newly arrived.
The overall preservation of the blade is remarkably sound, hardly believable for a Kamakura-period piece, befitting its Juyo certification. The jigane clearly shows itame mixed with mokume and jinie adheres well, displaying the characteristic utsu-ri pattern of Bizen swords. The hamon features suguha with some Ko-gunome mixed in, showing sunagashi and kinsuji. The nakago is inscribed with the name Yasuhiro.
Yasuhiro was a swordsmith active in the late Kamakura period, belonging to the Osafune school; his extant works are extremely rare. The shirasaya features a sayagaki by Kunzan. It reads: “Fukuoka Ichimonji Yasuhiro / Blade Length: 2 shaku 2 sun 6 bu / August 1987 / At Kugayama-bo / Kunzan.”
This is a rare opportunity to acquire a signed tachi from the Kamakura period, one of very few extant examples, and a highly valuable work by Yasuhiro, complete with a kunzan-style saya-gaki, to become your family treasure.
