This piece is a wakizashi made around the middle of the Edo period.
The entire blade is sound with no fatal flaws, although there is some very light rust and friction marks due to old polishing. The jigane is a well-folded itame hada, very typical of Shinto-period work. Hamon is a juzuba (hamon that looks like a row of beads) with the gunome almost uniformly aligned.
Koshirae is equipped with uchigatana. The sheath lacquering is very dynamic with tataki- nuri. The tsukamaki has been rewrapped in recent years, but the fuchi-kashira is believed to be from that period. The scabbard is equipped with kozuka and kogatana.
This is a wakizashi typical of Edo period works, and it creates the atmosphere of a samurai of that time. We hope you will feel it too.
