Wakizashi - Kanetoshi - Aikuchi Koshirae - Ubu Nakago - Shinto Era - Akita 30556

¥300,000 ¥320,000

Introducing a stunningly beautiful wakizashi crafted from Nanbantetsu steel. This piece is in exceptionally fine condition, with both the jigane and hamon intact.

The entire blade is polished to perfection and flawless. The jigane features a well-packed, itame-patterned surface in such excellent condition it could easily be mistaken for a modern work. The hamon features a prominent, wide midare base with a prominent gnome pattern. The nioi-guchi is well defined. The nakago bears inscriptions: “Bushu Fujiwara Kanetoshi” on the sashi-mote side, and “Nanbantetsu wo motte kore wo tsukuru” on the sashi-ura side. This signifies that Fujiwara Kanetoshi, residing in Bushu, crafted this using Nanbantetsu.

Nanbantetsu refers to Western refined iron imported via Portuguese and Dutch trade ships from the late Muromachi period through the Edo period. While harder than Japanese iron, it contains more impurities (phosphorus and sulfur), giving it a distinctive character. It is well-known that Yasutsugu of Echizen produced many famous swords using this material.

Consequently, this wakizashi also possesses a very unique atmosphere, resulting in a simply beautiful Japanese sword. We have set it at an affordable price, so please purchase it now.
