Wakizashi - Kunihiro - Uchigatana Koshirae - Ubu Nakago - Shinto Era - Aomori 8799

¥270,000 ¥300,000

This is a magnificent wakizashi of the Unokubi-zukuri style, forged during the Shinto period.

The entire blade retains its old polish yet remains exceptionally clean, presenting as a sound piece with virtually no flaws. The jigane displays beautifully raised, well-kneaded itame grain, with yubashiri also visible. The hamon features a refined, elegant finish with a tight, nioi-kuchi pattern. The nakago is inscribed with the signature: Minamoto Kunihiro Saku.

While swordsmiths named Kunihiro existed from the Koto period to the modern era, the swordsmith bearing the signature Minamoto Kunihiro is likely the smith active around the mid-Edo period in Mihara, Bingo Province.

The bold and powerful Unokubi-style blade features bohi.

The fittings feature period leather tsuka-ito wrapped in the tsumami style, along with matching fuchigane, tsukagashira, koiguchi, kojiri, and kurigata. It also comes equipped with a kozuka, making it a complete wakizashi.

We invite you to appreciate this splendid wakizashi, embodying the spirit of the Edo period warrior.
