This katana was made by Masaya, a young swordsmith from Gifu, Japan, and is a piece specifically designed for iai and batto. Overall, the blade is in healthy condition, but there is a thin forging flaw about 8 cm long at about 5 cm from the kissaki tip on the sashiomote and a very small spot of black rust about 3.5 cm from the habakimoto on the sashiura. The blade also has a kakinagashi type of groove engraved on the blade, making it ideal for iai or batto. It may be more suited to batto because of its relatively heavy weight. It has a very active pattern with fine sakachoji hamon on the itame skin. The koshirae fittings are modern. Part of the saya and the kurigata are wrapped with sharkskin for a high quality finish. We have set a very affordable price considering the condition of the sword, so buy it now.
