Authentic Shinto Era Tanto for Sale - Mumei(No Signature) | Tozando
¥290,000 ¥320,000
A unique Kaiken(pocket sword), believed to have been made in the early Muromachi period, has just arrived.
The sword is in extremely good condition with zero defects such as flaws, rust, or chips. The jigane has itame mixed with mokume and hataraki such as yubashiri. Hamon is elegant suguha with tight nioikuchi, and the distinctive utsuri that is common in pieces from the Bizen region is also faintly visible.
The shape of Nakago is frisode, so called because of its resemblance to the sleeves of a kimono. Frisode nakago pieces are very rare in the market. The name Yoshinori is engraved on the nakago.
Yoshinori was a swordsmith from the Yoshii school, and he was active in Bizen in the early Muromachi period. The Yoshii was a school of swordsmithing that flourished in the Yoshii-area across the Yoshii River that flows through the Osafune region, and Yoshinori later moved to the Izumo region to mirror its activities.
The koshirae consists of a sharkskin-wrapped tsuka and a unique black lacquered scabbard with horizontal kizami.
The Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords granted kicho certification to this piece in June 1978 and issued a certificate of authenticity for it.
Despite its small size, this Kaiken has a very strong presence, and yet it has a frisode nakago, making it truly a highly valuable piece to be passed down to the future. Add this pocket sword by the prestigious Yoshii school to your collection now.
