A heavy wakizashi made in the mid-Edo period with a certificate of authenticity has arrived.
The blade is polished and almost flawless, but there is a chip on the blade about 25 cm from the hamachi, probably due to actual use. The jigane is a well-polished itame and the hamon is a slightly notare style suguha. Some hataraki, such as aranie and kinsen, can also be seen in ha. The name, Yamato no Kami Fujiwara Tadayuki is engraved on the nakago. Yamato no Kami Tadayuki was a swordsmith from the country of Bungo who was active during the Shinto period and is said to have been the son of the second Yamato no Kami Fujiwara Tadayuki. He made many works reminiscent of the master swordsman Inoue Shinkai, and was very active as the exclusive swordsmith of the Kumamoto clan in the Country of Higo.
In February 2025, the Society for Preservation of Japanese Art and Swords issued a hozon certificate of authenticity for this piece, recognizing it as a genuine Tadayuki and as being of high value for further preservation for future generations.
The koshirae is only shirasaya, but it is made of beautiful shirasaya material reminiscent of tiger stripes, known as Torame pattern, with a certificate of authenticity from NBTHK, plus we are offering this piece at a special low price because it is equipped with a beautiful torame shirasaya, but shows chips in the ha.
This is an early bird deal.
