Tanto - Mumei(No Signature) - Tanto Koshirae - Ubu Nakago - Koto Era - Tokyo 171286

This piece is a Koto period ubu tanto equipped with a Shinobue lacquered scabbard.

The sword is extremely well preserved, with virtually no flaws, rust, or chips. The entire blade has been polished and is very clean. The jigane has itame mixed with mokume, which is typical of Koto period work. Hamon is a very thin suguha with an elegant finish.

Koshirae is tanto style with shinobue-lacquered Saya. The position of the Mekugi hole is slightly off-center, probably because the koshirae was made later than the sword itself.

This is a very elegant and well-conditioned piece despite its very affordable price.
