Tanto - Kanetomo - Shirasaya Koshirae - Ubu Nakago - Shinshinto Era - Nagasaki 024917

A very beautiful tanto made by Kanetomo in the late Edo period has just arrived.

The state of preservation is very good, almost flawless, but there are traces of rust at a point about 11 cm from the kissaki on the sashiura side. The hada is itame, close to masame, and the yubashiri and chikei are very nicely raised. The Suguha hamon mixed with Gunome is very beautiful and well nie tight.

Kanetomo was a master artisan who continued for eight generations from the Genroku era to the Meiji era, and this work is thought to be the last generation of Kanetomo. During the month-long Boshin War at the end of the Edo period, Kanetomo is said to have devoted himself to the making of bullets and other items, and it can be said that he was indeed a swordsmith who fought together with the Aizu clan to share its fate.

We invite you to add these pieces from the tumultuous period at the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate to your collection.
