Authentic Shinto Era Wakizashi for Sale - Tadahiro | Tozando
$1,800.00 $2,200.00
We are offering this wakizashi, featuring a charming uchigatana-style koshirae, at a great price.
The blade has an overall old-style polish, and both the ji and ha are in sound condition; however, there is an area on the left side of the yokote on the sashomote side that appears to be a mark left after rust removal. The jigane is a well-tempered ko-itame, and the hamon is a suguha with a very bright niioikuchi. The nakago is inscribed with “Omi Daijo Fujiwara Tadahiro.”
Omi Daijo Tadahiro was a master swordsmith representing Hizen-style swords who was active in Hizen Province (present-day Saga and Nagasaki Prefectures) from the early to mid-Edo period; he succeeded the name Tadayoshi as the second-generation master. He possessed the skill to forge an exceptionally fine and beautiful jigane, and is highly regarded as a master craftsman second only to his father, the first Tadayoshi.
However, the signature on this piece exhibits characteristics that make it difficult to authenticate as a work by Tadahiro, so we are selling it as an unsigned piece. The handle is wrapped in black pure silk using the tsumami-maki style, and the fittings are charming and full of character.
We are offering this wakizashi, complete with its koshirae, at a special price, so it’s first come, first served.
