This work was crafted in the early Edo period. It is a stylish tanto featuring family crests applied to a black-lacquered Aikuchi-style koshirae.

The entire blade is sharpened, and it is in excellent condition, a sound piece with virtually no forging flaws. The jigane has a well-packed itame grain, resulting in a very beautiful surface. The hamon is a fine, elegant suguha pattern with a nioi-deki finish.

The koshirae is in the black-lacquered Aikuchi style, painted with two family crests: the sword-chrysanthemum and the cascading wisteria. It is likely this tanto was commissioned as a celebratory gift for a wedding between families bearing these respective crests.

An exceptionally refined piece, it holds significant value as an addition to your collection.
